PIB: House of Reps receives report as NNPC boss is scheduled to brief Senate on Thursday

House of Representatives has received the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) report even as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mele Kyari, is scheduled to brief the Senate on the Bill on Thursday.

The House received the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) report from the Chairman Ad Hoc Committee on PIB, Mohammed Monguno.

Monguno laid the report before the house during the plenary session on Wednesday.

Read him: “That the house do receive the report of the ad–hoc committee on Petroleum Industry Bill on a bill for an act to provide legal, governance, regulatory and fiscal framework for the Nigerian Petroleum industry, the development of host communities; and for related matters, 2021 (HB. 1061).”

Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila asked members of the House to get a copy of the report ahead of its consideration.

Gbajabiamila had on Tuesday stated that the PIB, electoral act amendment bill, and supplementary budget would be passed within two weeks, specifically before the house embarks on its annual recess

▪︎ NNPC boss to brief Senate on PIB on Thursday, says Lawan

In a related development, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, said the NNPC GMD would brief the Senate on the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) 2021 on Thursday.

Lawan made this known during a plenary on Wednesday.

He said the briefing by Kyari would be closed-door and last for one hour.

The Senate President added that the briefing was to enlighten the senators on the technicalities and financial implications of certain provisions in the piece of legislation.

Lawan said: “Before plenary tomorrow, Thursday, the leadership of the Senate has decided to invite NNPC GMD to come and brief us in a closed session.

“The opportunity is for those of us who are not members of the joint committees to hear some of the technical details, financial details, and implications of certain provisions in the bill.”

On Tuesday, Senate received the report of the Joint Committee on Petroleum (Downstream); Petroleum (Upstream), and Gas Resources on PIB.
