PHOTONEWS: Argungu Emirate Honours Kalu with Kibiyan Kabi Title

The Argungu Emirate in Kebbi State on Friday, November 6, 2021, bestowed its revered traditional title of Kabiyan Kabi (Commander of the Archers) on the Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Recall that  the former Governor of Abia State and chieftain of the All Progressive’s Congress (APC) senator was earlier notified of the conferment in a letter from the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Mohammed Mera.

The Emirate council also stated in the letter that the traditional event would be held during the yearly international fishing festival in Argungu.

Also recall that it was reported that Senator Orji Kalu and his colleagues arrived at the ancient city, via Birnin Kebbi International Airport. Kalu and his entourage were duly  received by  state Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and the enthusiastic and good  people of Kebbi state .

Also honoured alongside Senator Orji Uzor Kalu was the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan with the title of “Ganuwan Kabi” of Kebbi Emirates.

On Friday, in the presence of other palace monarchs, dignitaries, government officials, fellow lawmakers and well wishers gathered at the palace, the Abia North Senator and Ahmed Lawan were turbaned with traditional attires as required by tradition

Kalu was also given a Bow and an Arrow which signified the meaning of the title.

Shortly after the turbaning ceremony, Kalu and other dignitaries, including the Governor of Kebbi State, were hosted to a reception at the residence of the leader of the Senate, Senator Abdullahi Yahaya.

Orji Kalu expressed his gratitude to the Emirate council and Kebbi State for bestowing on him the revered title, which Kalu described as a show of uncommon love and unity . He also thanked the Southeast community residing in Kebbi.

He wrote: “I was successfully turbaned Kibiyan Kabi of Argungu Emirates alongside Senate President,  Ahmad Lawan (Ganuwar Kabi) today. This is to thank the  Emir of Kebbi Emirate, good people of Kebbi State and the Igbo community in Kebbi for the trust and  love showered on me today .

“My immense  appreciation goes to the Sultan of Sokoto, Shehu of Borno , Governor of Yobe State and National Chairman of the APC, Governors of Kebbi, Katsina and Sokoto states , Senate Majority Leader , All former Governors of Sokoto and Kebbi state; Representative of Speaker of House of Representatives and many other notable dignitaries numerous to mention.  Thank you Nigerians.”

Some of the dignitaries present were:  the Sultan of Sokoto, Shehu of Borno , Governor of Yobe State and National Chairman of the APC, Governors of Kebbi, Katsina and Sokoto states , Senate Majority Leader , Senator Abdullahi Yahaya, Senator Fadahunsi Francis Adenigba ( Osun East ); Senator Utazi Godfrey Chukwuka (Enugu North) ; Senator  Michael Ama Nnachi ( Ebonyi South); Former Governor of Kebbi state and current Senator of Kebbi Central, Muhammad Adamu Aliero ; Deputy Chief Whip,Senator Abdullahi Sabi; Senator Sahabi Alhaji Yaú (Zamfara North) and other Senators.

Also included were all former Governors of Sokoto and Kebbi state; Representative of Speaker of House of Representatives and many other notable dignitaries numerous to mention.
