Petrol tanker explosion kills dozens in Kogi

A petrol tanker explosion has killed several persons in Felele area of Lokoja, Kogi state.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
Witness report said many of the victims of the tragic explosion included students of Kogi State Polytechnic and other residents.
Reacting to the incident, the State Governor, Yahaya Bello, expressed shock and sorrow.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, he described the explosion as the greatest tragedy the state had witnessed in recent times.
He condoled with the families of the victims and asked students of the state polytechnic to remain calm and peaceful, adding that he shared in their grieving moments.
“Governor Bello is very sad to learn of the tragic loss of lives, many vehicles, property and other valuables in the petrol tanker fire while expressing his deepest condolences to the family of those affected by the ugly occurrence.
“He said this is sadly the greatest tragedies the state has witnessed in recent times while describing the unfortunate accident as a sad development and shares the feeling of those who lost their loves ones in this incident.
“The Governor also urged the students of Kogi State Polytechnic to remain calm and peaceful, stating that he equally shares in their grieving moment over the death of some of their colleagues in the disaster,” the statement read.
