Peter Obi tells Nigerian youths: Politicians are the Goliath, you must be the David

Peter Obi has told Nigerian youths that politicians are the biggest obstacle to national progress, and urged a new generation to rise and defeat them.

Speaking at the David and Goliath Youth Conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the 2027 presidential front-runner said the “Goliaths” in Nigeria’s politics are leaders who divert public funds for personal gain and refuse to put the country first.

Obi said the result is visible across every sector. Security has collapsed, power supply remains unstable, hospitals lack drugs and equipment, and schools struggle with overcrowding and poor facilities. Unemployment continues to rise as leaders fail to deliver, he said.

“All critical sectors are suffering because of the leaders’ corrupt tendencies,” he told the audience at the event organised by Rev Fr John Chinenye Oluoma of the Abuja Archdiocese.

The youths at the conference pressed Obi on how to overcome what they called the Goliath in their own lives and in the country. He urged them to be realistic, live within their means, and reject artificial lifestyles as a first step toward personal and national change.

He said Nigeria must raise a David capable of confronting and defeating the entrenched political class to move the country forward.

Obi is positioning himself as the leading opposition candidate for the 2027 election, with youth mobilisation a central part of his campaign strategy.
