Foundation for Peace Professionals also known as PeacePro peac has called on the Nigerian government to leverage former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s experience in conflict resolution to help resolve the ongoing crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

PeacePro’s Executive Director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat in a statement, stated that Obasanjo’s expertise in foreign policy and conflict resolution makes him an ideal candidate to help mediate the crisis between DRC, Rwanda and M23.

“Given Chief Obasanjo’s wealth of experience in conflict resolution, we believe that he can play a crucial role in helping to resolve the crisis in the DRC,” Hamzat said.

The DRC has been plagued by conflict, with reports of civilian casualties, displacement, and human rights abuses. The conflict is further complicated by allegations that Rwanda is supporting rebel groups, including the M23, to attack the DRC’s territory. These allegations have been corroborated by the UN, and the M23 rebel group has claimed to have captured a town in the eastern region of the DRC.

According to PeacePro, Nigeria has a moral obligation to act given its historical role in promoting peace and stability in Africa.

“The situation in the DRC is dire, and it requires immediate attention from the international community,” Hamzat said.

“We urge the Nigerian government to tap into Chief Obasanjo’s expertise and work towards finding a lasting solution to the crisis in the DRC.”

As the situation in the DRC continues to deteriorate, the international community is increasingly calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The African Union, the European Union, and the United Nations have all condemned the violence and called for an end to hostilities.

The Nigerian government has yet to respond to PeacePro’s call to action.

However, the group remains optimistic that Nigeria will play a key role in resolving the conflict and promoting peace and stability in the region.

“We are confident that the Nigerian government will take our call seriously and take immediate action to address the crisis in the DRC,” Hamzat said.

The crisis in the DRC has significant implications for regional stability and global security. The international community must take immediate action to address the crisis and prevent further escalation.

As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear, the people of the DRC deserve peace, stability, and protection from violence. It is up to the leadership of this continent to ensure that their calls for help are heard and answered, Hamzat concluded.
