The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) has called on the Federal Government to immediately conduct a comprehensive territorial and security audit across Nigeria over fears that sophisticated foreign backed operational structures may be aiding terrorism and insecurity within the country.

PeacePro said the increasing complexity of terrorist operations across Nigeria suggested the possibility of entrenched “industrial based backup systems” that may exceed the capabilities of ordinary non state actors operating independently.

In a press statement, the Executive Director of PeacePro, Abdulrazaq Hamzat argued that the scale, coordination, and endurance of recent insurgent attacks indicate the likelihood of deeper transnational networks and possible covert support systems embedded within Nigerian territory.

The group specifically raised concerns that some of the suspected operational structures sustaining insecurity could have been installed or facilitated by a sovereign foreign actor pursuing strategic or geopolitical interests within the region.

According to Hamzat, modern asymmetric conflicts across Africa had increasingly evolved beyond conventional insurgency into proxy driven destabilisation involving foreign interests, mercenary networks, illegal resource extraction systems, and covert geopolitical competition.

He noted that terrorist groups operating in Nigeria now demonstrate capabilities, including intelligence coordination, sustained mobility, advanced tactical operations, complex supply chains, and prolonged operational endurance that warrant deeper investigation.

PeacePro therefore urged the federal government to launch a high-level multi agency investigation involving military intelligence, the Department of State Services (DSS), National Assembly security committees, and regional security institutions.

PeacePro called for urgent investigation into possible covert foreign linked operational infrastructure within Nigeria; Suspicious aerial and logistical supply patterns in insurgency prone regions; activities of foreign private military contractors and clandestine security networks; ungoverned forests, border corridors, remote airstrips, and vulnerable territories susceptible to infiltration.

PeacePro warned that if foreign backed systems are indeed aiding insecurity in Nigeria, the implication would amount not only to a grave security breach but also a direct challenge to Nigeria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence.

The organisation, however, cautioned against premature accusations against any specific country without credible evidence, insisting that any investigation must remain intelligence driven, evidence based, and consistent with international law and diplomatic responsibility.

The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) is a Nigerian peacebuilding and research organisation involved in conflict prevention, counter extremism advocacy, and security policy engagement.
