The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) has conferred its first ever individual recognition, naming Omoyele Sowore “Guardian of Civil Liberties.”

PeacePro described the decision as historic, marking the formal launch of its recognition framework for individuals demonstrating exceptional commitment to justice, nonviolence, and the protection of fundamental rights.

In a statement by its Executive Director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, PeacePro said the designation as Guardian of Civic Liberties reflects Sowore’s consistent frontline interventions in defense of citizens, particularly in cases involving detention, due process, and abuse of power.

“This is not a routine honor. It is PeacePro’s first, and it sets a clear standard.

‘Guardian of Civil Liberties’ recognizes sustained courage in defending rights and holding power accountable,” Hamzat said.

He added that the recognition signals a broader institutional goal, which is defining a culture where civic courage is acknowledged, and where the defense of human dignity is central to peacebuilding.

PeacePro clarified that the designation is not a legal pronouncement, but a moral and institutional recognition of consistent advocacy aligned with democratic values.

The organisation urged governments and institutions to uphold constitutional freedoms, due process, and accountability, stressing that peace cannot exist where justice is uncertain.
