The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) has thrown its weight behind Ghana’s bold move to adopt a 24-hour economic model, describing it as a groundbreaking step that could reshape the nation’s economy and serve as a model for other African countries.

The endorsement comes as part of a statement released by PeacePro’s Executive Director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, who also congratulated President John Dramani Mahama on his re-election to office.

In the statement, Hamzat commended the Mahama administration for its visionary leadership and proactive economic reforms.

He noted that Ghana’s transition to a 24-hour economy could boost job creation, enhance productivity, and strengthen urban security by extending business operations across multiple sectors.

“Adopting a 24-hour economy will position Ghana as a leading example in fostering economic resilience and regional competitiveness,” Hamzat said.

He highlighted key sectors poised to benefit, including transportation, logistics, manufacturing, tourism, and retail, which he said, were critical drivers of both national growth and poverty reduction.

However, PeacePro warned that a successful transition required strategic planning and robust infrastructure.

Hamzat urged the government to prioritize investments in stable electricity supply, with a focus on renewable energy to power continuous operations.

He also called for a comprehensive labour policies that protect night-shift workers, ensuring fair wages, health coverage, and workplace safety.

Security, a major concern for many African cities, was another focal point of PeacePro’s recommendations.

“Enhanced security frameworks, incorporating community policing and modern surveillance technology, will be essential to safeguard businesses and citizens participating in night-time activities,” Hamzat added.

The statement also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships to finance infrastructure improvements and operational transitions.

According to Hamzat, collaboration between the government and private sector was crucial to overcome cost barriers and build sustainable solutions.

Congratulating President Mahama, Hamzat expressed confidence in his ability to steer the nation toward greater prosperity.

“President Mahama’s re-election signals a renewed mandate for transformational leadership.

“His focus on economic reforms, peace, and regional collaboration will drive lasting change,” he said.

PeacePro, known for its advocacy in peacebuilding and sustainable development, pledged to support the administration in making the 24-hour economic model a reality.

Hamzat concluded, “Ghana’s success in this endeavour will not only benefit its citizens but will also inspire other African nations to rethink their economic strategies for sustainable growth.”
