PDP primary elections: Delta leaders put Ibori under pressure as daughter is held to stalemate

The uncertainties over the fate of the political godfathers in Delta State were unfolding on Sunday as Erhiatake Ibori, daughter of Chief James Ibori was held to a stalemate in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primary election for Ethiope Federal Constituency.

A report by GWGNG said that the primary election on Sunday for the single ticket between Ms Ibori, the incumbent Hon Ben Igbakpa and a third aspirant, Emeneofe Ufuoma ended with the first two scoring 34 votes each and Ufuoma scoring zero.

The deadlock means that Ibori-Suenu and Ufuoma would go for a run-off to decide who will fly the ticket.

The setback for Ibori’s daughter came after her second cousin, Orode Uduaghan, who is also daughter of the immediate past governor of the state was defeated in her bid to unseat the incumbent member of the Warri North State Constituency, Hon Fred Martins. Her bid ended in a fiasco after she polled seven votes to the 25 votes polled by the incumbent.

GWGNG had earlier reported that it was, however, a smooth sail for the daughter of another prominent daughter of a political godfather, Marilyn Okowa-Daramola as she easily picked the ticket for Ika North East constituency in the absence of a challenger.

GWGNG is unable to situate the role played by Governor Okowa in helping or opposing the ambition of Eritakae Ibori given the speculations of a rift between her father and himself over who flies the PDP ticket in 2023.

Eritakae Ibori was a senior legislative aide to Okowa when he served in the Senate between 2011 and 2014. She left the position to contest for a position in the Delta State House of Assembly and served for two terms before her present bid to unseat the member representing the Ethiope Federal Constituency.

With the tie, a rerun is expected to decide who will fly the flag of the PDP for Ethiope Federal Constituency in the 2023 General Elections

It was earlier reported that Chief James Ibori who governed Delta State between 1999 and 2007 and whose political structure is fabled to hold sway in the state had last week been reported to have pleaded with PDP political leaders of Ethiope to ensure the return of his daughter at the election.

Apparently with the stalemate, it seems that either his plea was spurned or other forces against him moved in to persuade the stakeholders to do otherwise. (GWGNG)
