PDP crisis: Concerned elders wade in

Concerned Elders Forum of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated move to resolve the ongoing crisis rocking the main opposition party in the country.

The forum in a statement signed by Senator David Mark, Alhaji Sule Lamido, Senator Ayim Pius Ayim, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Hajiya Zainab Maina, Senator Biodun Olujimi, Senator Odion Ugbesia, Prof. Jerry Gana, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo, Senator Zainab Kure, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, Dr. Iyochia Ayu, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, Senator A. Wabara, Senator Helen Esuene, Rt. Hon. Austin Okpara, Senator Agboola Hosea and Hajiya Hadiza Adodo urged all party organs, party officers and members to remain calm, faithful and orderly as urgent consultations and initiatives to resolve the contending issues were ongoing.

They reassured aggrieved stakeholders that they intend to be thorough, objective, creative and balanced in their efforts to find lasting solutions to the fundamental matters arising.

The forum further stated that they have initiated moves to urgently meet with the governors elected on the platform of the party, the Board of Trustees, the National Working Committee and other critical stakeholders.

The forum also acknowledged the legitimate desires of loyal members of the party to offer a credible, effective and productive alternative.

The elders said there is no doubt that the forum shall soon find positive, appropriate, pragmatic and lasting solutions to the problems facing the party.

“We shall emerge from this crisis stronger, better and more united. This is only a temporary challenge.

“We assure all Nigerians that the Peoples Democratic Party is resolute in providing qualitative leadership, sound programmes, effective implementation strategies and hope generating solutions to our national problems.

“On behalf of the elders and founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party, we wish to use this medium to thank all party members and supporters across Nigeria and in diaspora for their commitment, loyalty and strong support,” the forum said.
