No fewer than three governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have arrived in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital for the National Convention of the party, just as the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his Taraba State counterpart, Kefas Agbu, and other big shots of the party have stayed away.

The arrival of the governors was confirmed on Friday as preparations for the convention at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasigba reached its peak.

The governors already in Ibadan were identified as those of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed; Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal; Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri.

They were received by their counterpart and host, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Fubara and the Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, are not likely to be in Oyo State for the national convention as they are reported to be on their way to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Others big shots that are not going to attend the convention are a former President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; and former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.

In all, over 3,000 delegates are expected at the convention put together by the faction of the party headed by Umar Damagum.

The party said on X: “With the venue fully aglow and preparations hitting fever pitch, the stage is set for a convention that would redefine the PDP’s trajectory toward 2027.”

Delegates from Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos, Kwara, Delta, Adamawa, Zamfara, Edo, Bayelsa and Cross River States were said to have arrived for the convention, which comes amid differing court judgments in Abuja and Oyo State. [The Eagle Online]
