The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention, scheduled for November in Ibadan, Oyo State, may not hold due to unresolved internal disputes.

Speaking at his monthly media briefing on Monday, Wike stressed that the problem was not the venue but the unresolved issues leading up to the convention. He noted that while the party has set up committees to address some of the concerns, including those in the Southeast and Ebonyi, failure to fully resolve them could stall the convention.

“The venue is not the subject matter. The subject matter is whether the necessary issues have been addressed before holding the convention,” Wike said, dismissing claims that his concerns were linked to personal disagreements with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

He emphasized that PDP conventions have been successfully held in various locations in the past, including Port Harcourt and Abuja, and reiterated that the priority should be resolving disputes before the scheduled Ibadan gathering.

Wike added that while steps are being taken by the party to settle the grievances, the convention’s fate depends on the satisfactory resolution of the pending issues.
