In a fervent plea, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the immediate initiation of legal proceedings by the police against Hon. Amarachi Amadi, the member of the House of Representatives representing Mbaitoli and Ikeduru federal constituency.
Amadi was reportedly apprehended while leading a group of individuals in the hijacking of electoral materials intended for specific polling units during the ongoing gubernatorial election in Imo State.
The PDP vehemently asserted that the purported involvement of the APC leader in the hijacking of electoral materials constituted a grave criminal offense.
The party insisted that both Amadi and the accompanying individuals must be subjected to legal proceedings, ensuring that they faced the full extent of the law.
“Furthermore, emerging reports indicate that the individuals associated with Hon. Amadi may be linked to a menacing group responsible for recent acts of terror in Imo State.
“This revelation underscores the pressing need to apprehend those behind the escalating insecurity within the state,” the party said.
In a related development, the PDP called on the police to take decisive action against all identified APC members reportedly serving as personnel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the Imo State gubernatorial election.
It said that such actions, if proven true, would contravene Section 141 of the Electoral Act, 2022.
Notably, the party drew attention to the reported involvement of the APC Woman Leader in Owerri Ward, allegedly caught receiving INEC materials.
The PDP affirmed that its vigilant agents were on high alert, and the people of Imo State remained steadfast in their commitment to preventing any undue influence by individuals engaged in electoral malpractice.
The party emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that justice was served in these critical matters.
