Senator Joy Emordi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, has dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Emordi defected to the ruling party in Abuja on Wednesday, about the time crisis hit the leadership of the opposition PDP.
She was received by Governor Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, assisted in the process by former Senate President Ken Nnamani; Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State; and Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State.
According to a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, Emordi said she was convinced that the future of a prosperous and united Nigeria lay in the APC.
She described the APC leadership as sincerely and genuinely committed to a united Nigeria that had plans for future generation.
She was quoted to have said: “l assure the party of my loyalty and support and to work for the success of the party. The APC led federal government is working for the South East and this is attracting more PDP members into APC.”
Buni said the coming of Senator Emordi and other prominent politicians from the South East into the APC would promote national unity.
“The South East is a strong political bloc and very crucial to the unity of the country, this will mo doubt add to national cohesion,” Buni said.
