NDC shifts into 2027 campaign mode, approves e-Voting, reconciliation drive

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has declared “party supremacy” as non-negotiable, resolving that all government programmes, policies, and appointments must be cleared by the party structure before implementation.

The resolution was reached at the party’s Second National Executive Committee meeting and announced Sunday, June 7, 2026, by National Publicity Secretary Osa Director.

The party says the move is aimed at building NDC as a “strong and enduring institution” rather than a personality cult or “Special Purpose Vehicle”.

–Party controls government decisions–

Under the new resolution, any government elected on the NDC platform must consult the party structure on programmes, policies, and appointments — except personal staff — before acting.

“The party remains supreme, and members are expected to align their personal interests and agendas with those of the party,” the statement read.

–Affiliates brought under central control–

All groups and NGOs affiliated to NDC must now operate “under the guidance and control of the party”.

The NEC warned they must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure.

–Code of Conduct and reconciliation push–

To enforce discipline, NDC will roll out a comprehensive Code of Conduct for all officials and candidates.

A committee led by the National Legal Adviser has been constituted to draft the framework and guidelines.

The NEC also inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee to settle disputes and reconcile “all aggrieved members”.

–Strict rules on campaign money–

In a bid to tackle financial opacity, NDC mandated strict accountability for all party and campaign funds.

“Party funds must be used strictly for party business,” the party said.

For candidates, “monies sourced at all levels, and contributions made by candidates to campaign accounts, must be fully disclosed to the party” at local government, state, zonal, and national levels.

All such funds must pass through dedicated party campaign accounts, including presidential and governorship campaign accounts.

–“We are building for generations”–

The NEC stressed that NDC is “being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or SPV to be used and discarded”.

“At all times, and for all candidates and aspirants, total allegiance must be to the party and the national interest,” Osa Director said.

Members were urged to remain committed to the party’s growth and sustainability “for generations to come”.

The resolutions signal NDC’s attempt to avoid the internal crises and post-election defections that have weakened rival parties, by placing the institution above individual office holders.
