Pantami commissions Imo State’s emergency communications centre

As part of the implementation of the Digital Nigeria project that aims to enhance digital transformation in Nigeria, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, on Thursday, commissioned the Imo State Emergency Communications Centre (ECC).

The 112 toll-free line, which leverages on digital technology, is intended to bridge the communication gap between the distressed and emergency response agencies in line with the NEXT LEVEL agenda.

In his remarks, Dr Pantami stated that the ECC centre was in line with the key priority areas of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, adding that, the centre would improve security, enhance economic development and help in the fight against corruption.

The Minister also revealed that the centre would operate 24 hours a day, and no network operator would charge the end user for making use of the service.

He further reiterated the importance of the ECC centre, which he described as an essential project that would enhance the security of life and property in the country in line with President Buhari’s national agenda to improve the security of life and property of the citizens.

On his part, the host Governor, Governor Hope Uzodimma appreciated the Federal Government for siting the ECC project in the State and other interventions projects provided.

He said: “We are already benefiting from the Emergency Communications Centre, the centre has helped to reduce crime rate in the State.”
