The deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Mrs Funmilayo Theresa Ogun, has rejected her nomination as running mate to the party’s standard bearer in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Bisi Kolawole, thus throwing the party into some quandary.
Mrs Ogun, who was a former Commissioner for Works and Transportation from 2016- 2018, said she rejected her nomination as Deputy Governor for “personal reasons”.
Her action has been largely described as ill-omened for the party whose leadership has been caught up in a serial macabre dance.
She made this known via a letter dated Thursday, 24th February 2022, and addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
Other leaders of the opposition party copied in the letter entitled, “Ekiti 2022- Re: My Nomination As Deputy Governorship Candidate” are PDP National Organizing Secretary, National Secretary Ekiti State PDP Chairman, Ekiti 2022 Gubernatorial Candidate.
The letter read: “This is to formally inform you that I am not unaware of my nomination by Ekiti Stakeholders for the position of the Deputy Governorship Candidate in the 18th June 2022 Gubernatorial Election.
“Notwithstanding their good intentions, I formally write to reject the nomination for personal reasons.
“However, I appreciate the uncommon recognition and I am assuring the Party that no effort will be spared at ensuring our victory at the election.
“The Candidate can therefore be approached for a fresh nomination.”
