"Pad a Girl" Outreach Hands Abuja Schoolgirls Pads, Confidence

Hundreds of students at Government Secondary School Kubwa, popularly called Black and White, left with sanitary pads and renewed confidence this week after the BiBi’s Heart and Care Initiative, BCHI, staged its “Pad a Girl” outreach.

The programme took on period poverty directly, pairing health education with free menstrual supplies to keep girls in class.

Breaking the silence

Certified health workers opened with a frank talk on menstrual health, aimed at stripping away stigma and dispelling myths.

“Period poverty isn’t just about a lack of supplies. It’s about a lack of information and the shame that often follows,” an organiser said. “By talking openly, we give these girls their confidence back.”

What the girls got

1. Hygiene education: Practical lessons on safe menstrual management.
2. Myth-busting Q&A: Students asked questions and learned that menstruation is natural and healthy.
3. Free pads: Every girl received a pack of sanitary pads so none would miss school for lack of protection.

Why it matters

Poor menstrual hygiene keeps many girls out of school each month. BCHI said access to pads and facts is a direct step toward educational equality.

The day ended with smiles, new knowledge, and a call for more “period-positive” conversations in the community.
