The crisis between the Oyo State Government and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over revenue and electricity debt has been resolved.
With the resolution of the crisis, the electricity company will reconnect the State Secretariat which houses the Governor’s Office.
The secretariat had been disconnected in the aftermath of the debt issue.
In return, the state government will unseal the IBEDC offices that had been sealed.
IBEDC had disconnected electricity supply to the State Secretariat over N450 million debt owed by the state government.
In retaliation, the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue secured court order for sealing off IBEDC offices in Ibadan, the state capital.
But the state government and the electricity distribution company (DisCo) on Thursday, resolved their differences after a meeting at the Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
They declared their readiness to work together to find an amicable resolution of all issues surrounding the recent sealing of the IBEDC offices in Ibadan by the state government.
A joint statement jointly signed by the Oyo State Commissioner for Energy & Mineral Resources, Barr. Temilolu Seun Ashamu and the Chief Operating Officer of the IBEDC, Engr. John Ayodele, read in part: “This is to notify the general public that the Oyo State Government and the IBEDC have resolved and agreed to work together in the interest of the public.
“The general public is hereby assured of the restoration of electricity supply as soon as possible, while the two parties shall continue amicable resolution of the issue in the interest of the public, including working together to make electricity meters available to residents of the state.”
