● “Parochial leaders like Makinde are grave danger” — APC rejects claim that govs can’t control security agencies
Oyo APC has demanded Governor Seyi Makinde’s resignation, blasting his comments on insecurity as “a height of cluelessness, insincerity and criminal ineptitude.”
The attack came Sunday after Makinde, speaking as APM presidential candidate in Ibadan, said his hands were tied in rescuing kidnapped schoolchildren because security agencies are controlled by Abuja.
APC state spokesperson Olawale Sadare fired back in a statement: Makinde’s claim misrepresents the constitutional role of governors in tackling insecurity.
The party accused him of attempting to shift blame for Oyo’s worsening security situation.
“Parochial leaders like Makinde pose a grave danger to the growth and development of the Nigerian society, and it is important for the electorate to avoid them in future elections,” Sadare said.
In an unprecedented escalation, APC went further: Makinde should step down and allow his deputy to complete the remaining period of the administration
Makinde made the controversial remarks during his APM acceptance speech on Saturday while lamenting the abduction of schoolchildren and other victims in Oyo.
He argued governors lack “absolute authority” over police and other security structures.
APC rejected that position outright, insisting governors have enough constitutional and security votes powers to act.
