A former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, KSJI, on Tuesday, commiserated with the family of a former president of the senate in the Second Republic, Joseph Wayas, who died last Monday in London, at the age of 80.
In a statement in Benin, the Ex Senate Whip, who was also a member of the House of Representatives in the Second Republic, said Nigeria had lost a wonderful and easy-going man, who was never annoyed beyond an hour.
“His Excellency, Dr Joe Wayas was always jovial and highly receptive of people.
“It was at a party in the late Senator Uba Ahmed’s Quarters that I gave him a title of “CHAIRMAN OF ENJOYMENT”.
“We celebrated that title of his freequently during our tenure in the NASS.
“I was a member of the House of Representatives, for the then Orhionmwon Federal Constituency, on UPN platform.
“He and the late Rt.Hon Barrister Ume- Ezeoke (NPP) who was Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1979-1983. piloted the affairs of the then NASS in peace, harmony, and repect for members of the five political parties, NPN, UPN, NPP, PRP and GNPP in NASS.
“The great “CHAIRMAN OF ENJOYMENT” “JW”, great CHILD OF SOUTH-SOUTH and Nigeria, may the Almighty God, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, grant you eternal rest and protect those you left behind in Jesus Name,” Owie said.
