President Bola Tinubu has mourned the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, and the former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, who died in a helicopter crash in the United States.
Tinubu described the death of the Nigerian business leaders as “an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension”, noting that he received the news of their demise with shock and deep distress.
The president said this in a statement issued by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
He further condoled the Wigwe and Ogunbanjo families, the business community, and all those impacted by “this harrowing incident”.
President Tinubu also prayed for the “peaceful repose of the departed and asks God Almighty to comfort the multitude of Nigerians who are grieving and the families of the deceased at this deeply agonizing moment.”
The Star had reported that Wigwe and Ogunbanjo died in a helicopter crash in California, the United States, on Friday, February 9.
It was gathered that the chopper was headed to Las Vegas when it crashed near a border city between Nevada and California on Friday night.
Wigwe, his wife, son, and Ogunbanjo were in the helicopter when it crashed.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Saturday confirmed the crash, noting that six passengers were onboard, with no survivors found.
