The meeting of the National Security Council, NSC, has been rounded off in Abuja with a presidential endorsement for new security measures in the Southeast and South-south zones of the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari was reported to have endorsed the new security measures to tackle the security challenges of insecurity in the two geo-political zones in the southern part of the country.
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, announced this endorsement while briefing State House reporters after the NSC meeting.
The meeting, where the nation’s top security leadership guard exchanged ideas and discussed suggestions contained in memos that were presented, was presided over by President Buhari.
Significantly, the specific particulars or details of the security strategies were kept under wraps by the acting IGP who briefed State House Correspondents at the end of the closed’door session.
The National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Major-General Babagana Monguno, had prior to the acting IGP’s briefing hinted that operational strategies would now be kept secret.
Monguno had said the meeting also approved a memo he presented on the control of drugs, which, he said, were enablers of insecurity.
He, however, did not providile details to validate his claims.
The NSA said the meeting underscored the need to address the security challenges in the country particularly those that had arisen in the last few months.
There have been constant attacks on security operatives and public infrastructure in the Southeast and South-south in the past weeks with many security operstives paying the Supreme price and many police stations getting destroyed.
The finger points at the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as sponsors and masterminds of the attacks.
