It has been two years since the demise of the Pillar of Sports in Osun and one of the most iconic individuals in the history of football administration in Nigeria, Chief Taiwo Joseph Ogunjobi, who was born on August 17, 1963 and passed away on February 11, 2019.
The late Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) now NFF, according to the Media Officer, Osun United, Media Officer, Tajudeen Amodu, was the former President of the Omoluabi Giants and until his death, the Chairman, Osun State Football Association.
Known for his sagacity in football administration and management, the Ijesha-born icon, after serving his fatherland meritoriously between 2002 and 2005 berthed at his source, the State of Omoluabi, raised the bar of sports, particularly football and made Osun United a force to reckon with in the Nigeria’s football community.
Alas! the former Special Assistant to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Football Matter surrendered to the cold arms of the death on Monday, February 11, 2020, few days after being admitted into the University Teaching Hospital, (UCH), Ibadan, following a brief illness.
He served as secretary-general of then Nigeria Football Association between 2002 and 2005, and was a member of the NFF Executive Committee between 2006 and 2010.
His death, at the age of 65, came 35 years anniversary of his debut for Nigeria against Morocco in an Olympic qualifier in 1984.
A football administrator for more than two decades, Ogunjobi was the Chairman of one of the Nigeria’s finest Traditional Clubs, Shooting Stars of Ibadan popularly called the Oluyole Warriors for many years.
He captained the Shooting Stars team that reached the final of the then Africa Cup of Champions Clubs (the precursor to the African Champions league) in 1984.
He was also known for his generosity and philanthropic gestures as he assisted most of the football administrators at the helms of football affairs in Nigeria today.
