Osun State Government has reacted to a report credited to an International non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Clean-Up Nigeria which rated Osun as one of the dirtiest states in Nigeria.

The state faulted the claim, saying Osun remains one of the cleanest state in the country.

Recall that the Clean-Up Nigeria, an international non-governmental organisation had rated Osun , Borno and Kogi , the most dirtiest states in Nigeria.

According to the NGO, with cleanliness performance index ratings of 12 per cent, 13 per cent and 14 per cent for Borno, Osun and Kogi respectively, the states emerged as the top three dirtiest.

However, the Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Environment and Sanitation, Rufus Oyegbile, while reacting to the report in an interview with journalists on Monday in his office, described the claim of the NGO as a ruse and barbaric, saying it was a deliberate attempt to rubbish the good work of the performing Governor.

Oyegbile said: “It is callous and disheartened for a group not known to us with no defined criteria, to declare a state that has got several awards on cleanliness and sanitation as one of the dirtiest states in this country.

“I wonder what the NGO that has no website address and online profile, a masquerade, could be saying about the state of Omoluabi. This is insane,” he said.

“With all sense of responsibility, Osun remains one of the cleanest states in Nigeria. The state capital and major cities in the state are kept clean everyday by over 500 sweepers, about 1000 parkers, and 60 PSP operators.

“Over 31 large trucks and 43 small trucks pack over 1000 tonnes of waste to our various dump sites daily for effective management.

“How could some unscrupulous elements gathered to tannish the good work of an action Governor? It’s barbaric.

“I hereby reject such write up and warn the so called NGO to desist from such act. I thank you.”
