“Presence Of Security Personnel Is To Inspire Confidence, Not Instill Fear” – TICC_
The Imole Campaign Council, TICC, of Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged residents of Osun State not to panic over the increased presence of military, police and other security operatives ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
In a statement issued Thursday, August 13, and signed by spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., the council said the deployment is aimed at guaranteeing safety and ensuring a peaceful poll.
—“Not To Instill Fear But To Inspire Confidence”—
TICC said it noted the “widespread apprehension and fear” among residents following convoys and patrols seen on major streets.
“Given the heightened atmosphere as we gradually draw closer to the poll, we understand that this visible presence of military and other security personnel on our streets may raise questions and, for some, even concerns,” the statement read.
The council described the deployment as a proactive measure to safeguard the electoral process.
According to TICC, the presence of security personnel is “not to instill fear but to inspire confidence” and “not intended to suppress voters but to protect them.”
—Call For Voter Turnout And Cooperation—
The campaign council urged Osun residents to go about their normal activities and come out in large numbers on election day.
“We therefore urge Osun people to go about their normal activities without fear as the security personnel have a responsibility to guarantee their safety and ensure an atmosphere of peace and order before and during the election,” it said.
TICC also appealed to residents to treat security personnel with courtesy at checkpoints and to provide “actionable intelligence” on criminal hideouts that could threaten the election.
Parents were advised to caution children and wards against actions capable of disrupting the poll, warning that such acts could attract a “forceful response” from security agencies.
—Call For Professionalism From Security Agencies—
The council urged deployed personnel to conduct themselves professionally and impartially throughout the electoral process.
