Governor Ademola Adeleke has deposed Oba Joseph Oloyede as the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu after he was convicted of fraud and money laundering in the United States.
The decision, approved on May 7, followed receipt of the Certified True Copy of the Ohio court judgment, according to the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed.
Rasheed said the move was to preserve peace, good governance, and the integrity of the royal stool. He noted that Oloyede’s conviction for wire fraud, false tax returns, and money laundering had brought the Obaship into disrepute.
The Osun State Executive Council had in 2025 directed the Ministry of Local Government to obtain the court judgment, saying decisions could not rest on social media reports alone.
Oloyede was sentenced to 56 months in prison on August 26, 2025, by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
With the stool now vacant, the government said the process for appointing a new Apetumodu would begin in due course. Adeleke urged residents of Ipetumodu to remain peaceful during the transition.
