Osinbajo lauds LASG On COVID-19 management
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has commended the Lagos state government ensuring that the COVID-19 curve was flattened.
He stated that the government deserved further commendation for emplacing effective containment measures against COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Osinbajo, while speaking virtually during the inauguration of Evercare Hospital, a tertiary health centre in Lekki, Lagos on Thursday, applauded Sanwo-Olu for the strong leadership qualities he displayed during the pandemic.
He stated that the ongoing serious investment in the health sector would reverse the trend of outbound medical tourism and begin to attract not just medical tourists from neighbouring regions but also developed nations to seek first-class healthcare in the country.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, on the occasion, reiterated his administration’s commitment to improve healthcare infrastructure as well as make services more affordable and accessible for residents in the state.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed that his administration spent billions of naira last year on procurement of health equipment which would arrive in the state soon and therefore help reduce medical tourism of citizens and brain drain amongst health workers.
He promised to scale up the state’s tertiary health centre, Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and ensure it becomes more accessible and affordable.
Speaking on why he had yet to take his jab, Sanwo-Olu said “I just want to follow the rules. The rules are that the health workers at the frontline should first take it.
“So, I am pleading with the Commissioner of Health to be gracious and let me also take. So, they have given me a date, tomorrow (Friday) and I am hoping that they would have started giving it to the health workers.”
Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, speaking at the event, added that the State Government would also create enabling environment for private sector to change the face of healthcare services in the state and the country at large.
