The meeting between All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in the forthcoming Edo State gubernatorial election and leaders of the party in the state ended, on Saturday, in Abuja with a commitment to prune down the number of aspirants on the party platform.
No fewer than 26 aspirants, including, among others, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Professor Oserhiemen Osunbor, Dr Ernest Umakhihe, Hon Demnis Idahosa, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Hon Anamero Sunday Dekeri, Hon Festus Ebea, and Prince Kassim Afegbua, are jostling for the party ticket.
The meeting was between the 26 governorship aspirants of the party and the State Working Committee, leaders from the 18 local government councils, among others, where the forthcoming election was extensively deliberated upon
The meeting, which started about 5:00 pm in Abuja on Saturday, January 13th, 2024, was convened by a former governor of the state and incumbent Senator of the Federal Republic representing Edo North, Comarde Adams Oshiomhole.
At the end of the meeting, a five-man committee was reportedly set up by leaders of the party with the responsibility of interfacing with the 26 aspirants and pruning the number to a reasonable and manageable number.
It is also to come up with a credible aspirant who will be supported to bear the party’s standard in the September 21, 2024 epic governorship contest.
The committee is to submit its report during a similar meeting scheduled for Monday.
The meeting, according to reports, did not discuss the issue of zoning.
