Members of the Chief Dan Orbih’s-led faction of the Edo state chapter of the People’s Democratic party PDP were reportedly absent
at a recent Edo north senatorial rally of the party, which took place in Auchi.

The absence of members of the Orbih-led Legacy Group in the PDP reportedly took the shines off the event at which the Supereme Court-validated senatorial candidate, Francis Alimikhena, had planned to announce an emphatic participation in the February 25 poll.

A report by Borderlines24.com said that besides raising eyebrows and presenting the PDP as a house divided against itself, the absence of the members of the rival faction showed there was no immediate end to the crisis within the PDP fold in Edo State

The apex court in the land, the Supreme Court had recently ruled in favour of the Obaseki/Shaibu -led faction, thereby terminating the back and forth which had characterised the intra-party crisis in the PDP.

However, the judgment seems not to have gone down well with the Chief Orbih-led faction and instead of fostering the closing of ranks, the decision of the apex has further deepened the crisis to the extent that the members of the rival Chief Dan Orbih-led faction have resorted to boycott party activities.

The duo of Gov Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Hon Phillip Shuaib were present at the Auchi rally to present the PDP flags to the various party candidates in the state and national assembly elections.

Reacting to the absence of the members of the Chief Dan Orbih-led faction at the Auchi rally, a leader of the faction said they were not informed talk less of being invited.

He pointedly accused the state governor of being on a vendetta mission, adding that the intra-party crisis would be over in a wink if the governor removed sentiments and acted as the leader he was supposed to be.

The Dan Orbih-led faction of the party which prides itself as the “Legacy Group” has yet to declare its stand on whom to support in the elections.
