Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, says promoting Nigeria’s culture requires collective effort from traditional institutions and tourism stakeholders.

Oba Ogunwusi said this in a statement issued by the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) on Friday in Lagos.

The traditional ruler said this when NANTA members, led by Second National Deputy President, Dr Dagunduro Olatokunbo, paid him a courtesy visit in Ile-Ife.

He noted that projecting Nigeria’s heritage globally was not just the royal institutions’ job, but also the tourism industry’s responsibility as a key nation-marketer.

He reaffirmed his support for Nigeria’s travel and tourism industry as the association marks its 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Ogunwusi described the anniversary theme, “Embracing Our Diverse Cultural Heritage from the City of Firsts: Redefining Our Roles as Global Travel Ambassadors”, as a timely call to promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage to the global community.

The traditional ruler confirmed his participation in the opening of the conference and exhibition scheduled to hold from April 14 to April 18 in Ibadan.

Ogunwusi also said that the palace would host NANTA stakeholders on April 15 for a cultural and heritage tour, calling Ile-Ife the cradle of Yoruba and a historic centre of civilisation.

According to him, the visit will reconnect delegates to their roots and deepen their appreciation of Nigeria’s cultural identity.

He prayed for a successful and impactful anniversary, and urged stakeholders to continue promoting cultural tourism as a tool for national development.
