The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned 26-year-old John Butren over an alleged attempted murder in Owo.

Police say Butren attacked 30-year-old Moses Paul with a machete during a dispute at Alajawo Camp on May 20, 2026. The victim suffered severe injuries to his head and shoulder, according to the command.

The incident was reported at A Division Police Station in Owo by Esther Agunloye, prompting detectives to visit the scene. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abayomi Jimoh said in a statement Friday that the cutlass allegedly used was recovered during investigations.

Paul was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where Jimoh said he is receiving treatment and responding well.

Jimoh added that Butren confessed to the crime during interrogation and has been charged to court. The court ordered his remand at Owo Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.

Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu said the command remains committed to tackling violent crime and prosecuting offenders. He warned residents against taking the law into their own hands and urged them to resolve disputes peacefully and share credible information with security agencies.
