Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has said that his administration will continue to seek justice for the victims of the June 5, 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, where over 40 worshippers were killed.
The governor made this commitment while attending the 15th Episcopal Anniversary and 35th Priestly Ordination Anniversary of Bishop Jude Arogundade of the Ondo Catholic Diocese.
Aiyedatiwa highlighted his administration’s efforts to strengthen security in the state, including procurement of 75 Hilux vehicles equipped with modern security gadgets to support security agencies.
He said that monthly logistics support was provided to security operatives to enhance their operations.
These measures, he said, had earned Ondo State recognition as one of the safest in Nigeria, attracting new investments and ensuring citizens could go about their daily activities without fear.
The governor disclosed that suspects linked to the Owo attack, including Idris Omeiza, Al-Quasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Abubakar, had been arrested and were being prosecuted by the Department of State Security (DSS).
He commended the federal government and the DSS for prosecuting the suspects.
Aiyedatiwa emphasised the need for unity and love in healing the wounds of the past and ensuring a safer future for the state.
During the event, Aiyedatiwa praised Bishop Arogundade for his dedication to peace, justice, and human dignity, describing him as a beacon of hope.
The governor also commended the Catholic Church for its significant contributions to education, healthcare, and social development in Ondo State.
