[Press Release] Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has called for religious harmony and peace in the country, urging religious leaders to preach the virtues of tolerance and peace.
Omo-Agege, a Knight of St. John International, in his Easter message urged Christians to continue to espouse and uphold the teachings of Jesus Christ whose work of salvation was completed with His Resurrection at Easter.

“When He completed His divine task of sacrificing His life for the redemption of man, He admonished us to remain faithful to His teachings. At this time when our country is facing challenges, the message of Jesus Christ holds even greater significance. Let us take our challenges to God in prayer and ask Him to lead us on the path of obedience to His word,” he said
Omo-Agege said the clergy in all religions have to intensify the message of harmony and respect for human life. Against the backdrop of attacks in different parts of the country in a period when the Christian Lenten season coincided the holy month of Ramadan in Islam, Nigerians, he said, must not consider the convergence only as symbolism.
“The clergy in all religions must up their game and preach harmony, tolerance and patriotism to the faithful. That there were incidents of violence and loss of lives during this period is cause for religious leaders to intensify their message to their followers. The solution to our challenges does not rest only with security agencies.
“Our religious leaders must lead the quest for the solution to intermittent sectarian violence by emphasising the fact that the God we all serve has no room for violence and killings”, the former deputy president of the Senate said.
“On behalf of my family and political associates, I wish every Nigerian a wonderful Easter and the redeeming grace of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ”, Omo-Agege stated.
