The Olubadan-In-Council said on Monday that aspiring chiefs in Ibadan must henceforth pass some integrity test.

It stated that they must also possess record of past contributions to the ancient city before such an appointment is made.

Some of the affected chieftaincy titles are Baale, Mogaji or Jagun.

The announcement was made at the Olubadan-in-Council’s meeting held at the Alarere residence of the Olubadan-designate, Senator Lekan Balogun and presided over by him.

Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, briefed the media after the meeting.

He said the decision was in consonance with the policy of the new Olubadan that Ibadan chieftaincy titles would not be for sale during his reign.

High Chief Ajibola explained that in order to drive home the point, the expectant Baale, Mogaji or Jagun would be screened by the members of the Olubadan-in-Council before appointment.

Other issues discussed at the meeting, according to the Otun Balogun, were the coronation ceremony of the new Olubadan.

The coronation is scheduled to hold next week.

The coronation will pave the way for the elevation of the high chiefs in the Olubadan line consequent upon the elevation of Otun Olubadan (Dr. Lekan Balogun) to the Olubadan stool.

High Chief Ajibola said the meeting, at the instance of the new Olubadan, expanded the coronation committee with the nomination of High Chiefs Lateef Adebimpe, Olubunmi Isioye, Abiodun Kola-Daisi and Hamidu Ajibade as Osi Balogun, Ekerin Balogun, Ekerin Olubadan and Ekarun Olubadan, respectively.

Two baales, Oniroko of Iroko, Ismaila Olasunkanmi Abioye and Baale Ajia Olorungbuji, Oladepo Suleiman, were also nominated among the new members and their names would be sent to the state government for inclusion, according to High Chief Ajibola.

The meeting had in attendance Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin, Osi Balogun, High Chief Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe, Ashipa Balogun, High Chief Kola Adegbola and Ekerin Balogun, High Chief Olubunmi Isioye.
