Olowu-Kuta, Oba Oyelude Makama honoured with NUJ Hall of Fame Award

The Osun State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) has honoured the Olowu of Owu-Kuta in Ayedire local government area of the state, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, with the NUJ Hall of Fame.

The event took place on Friday in Owu-Kuta at the Ultra Modern Palace Hall.

The NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu, in his welcome address, informed of the reason leading to the NUJ Hall of Fame Award on Kabiyesi Olowu Kuta, HRH Oba Oyelude Makama as he described the traditional ruler as a rare monarch whose only preoccupation is to raise people up in empowerment and always seeing to the well-being of the masses.

The NUJ Chairman, said, “Olowu Kuta has demonstrated that he possessed the ability to give back to the society. It is not easy to give back to the society, but Kabiyesi is an humanitarian per excellence and a philanthropist to the core. He is always keen in anything that will better the lives of his fellow human being. He is interested in human and material development.

“Look at Kuta in the past, look at Kuta today, its all the creation of Olowu Kuta. Someone like this must be recognised.

“The NUJ Hall of Fame is meant for selected people who have contributed in no measure and significantly to the development of their community and impacted in the lives of others and Olowu Kuta fits into this class and that is why we are honouring him today”.

He added that Kabiyesi the Olowu, is the fourth monarch to be so honoured after the Ooni of Ife, HRH Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Makama went into the memory lane about his relationship with newsmen, comprising the electronic, print, Broadcast and online media in the state.

The monarch who was highly elated, said he highly appreciate the state council of the NUJ for recognising him with the highest award. He promised that he will not let the entire media down.

Speaking with newsmen at the colourful and well attended ceremony, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin said he holds Oba Makama in high esteem for his astuteness, his benevolence and his love for his people.

“He is interested in the development of Kuta and environs. Kuta is so dear to him. I refer to him as general of the traditional class.”
