Moments after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) handed him and his deputy governor-elect their certificates of return, as winner of Saturday, September 21 Edo governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo was in the State House to pay homage and obeisance to President Bola Tinubu for ensuring his victory in the poll.

The thank-you-visit came amid controversies that the outcome of the poll is generating across the state and national political landscapes.

At the State House, Senator Okpebholo knelt down before President Bola Tinubu, as governors of the All Progressives Congress, who visited Aso Rock villa on Thursday with him watched the demonstration of Okpebholo’s sense of appreciation. The others, apart from Oshiomhole, who stepped out to pump hands with President Tinubu, went on their knees.

Okpebholo was accompanied by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and some of the governors elected on the platform of the party.

Among the governors spotted in the entourage were the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Usman Ododo (Kogi), and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).

Also on the entourage were the Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, and deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.

Recall that prior to the poll, President Tinubu had promised to deliver Edo State to the APC. It was therefore clear that whoever won the ticket of the party was going to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.
