Nigeria’s president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been commended for appointing Professor [Mrs] Idia Ize-Iyamu, as substantive Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City.
This was contained in a congralatory statement to Professor Ize-Iyamu, issued by Mr. Okoyo, a Canada-based Chartered Accountant and Behavioural Scientist.
Okoyo said that the appointment by President Tinubu, was apt and worthwhile, adding that it had capped Prof Ize-Iyamu’s erudition, hardwork, and immesurable contributions to the medical profession, health education and the society.

Mr. Okoyo, popularly known as GFO, also said that although Prof Ize-Iyamu merited the position, he however, hailed the appointment as timely and a confirmation of President Tinubu’s disposition to the inclusion of the women folks in Nigerian polity.

“It is joy to me and my family that the siamese wife of my great friend and confidant, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is elevated to such a lofty position, where she will continue with her usual caregiving work humanity,” Okoyo a stalwart of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who is also notable in the party’s diaspora activities, said.
The appointment of Prof Idia Ize-Iyamu, a professor of Orthodontics with the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and a Consultant Orthodontist of the UBTH, and a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, is the first time a woman is tapped to head the institution since its establishment in 1971 as Midwest Medical Centre in 1971, which later transformed to a university teaching hospital, in 1973.
