In a swift riposte to a report doing the rounds to the effect that Governor Godwin Obaseki has given his deputy, Phillip Shaibu, a precondition for the acceptance of his apology, to wit: withdrawal of his interest in the governorship race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, an insider source has said there was nothing of such.

The source told THE CONCLAVE that the issue did not feature in the State Executive Council retreat going on at Lakowe Lakes Golf Resort and Country Estates on the outskirts of Lagos.

The source, however, confirmed that the Deputy Governor, Shaibu, was not in attendance at the retreat.

He said that the State Executive Council was not relocated to Lagos, explaining that the Council members were on their annual retreat with Governor Obaseki.

The retreat is being attended by commissioners and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies [MDAs].

He said the retreat was not convened in Lagos with the aim of shutting out anybody.

He stated that the State Executive Council held last year’s retreat at the same location and venue even as he applauded the serenity of the venue, which necessitated government’s decision to once again hold its yearly retreat at the location.

The source said that the State Exco meeting that held on Monday, September 25, 2023, was to mitigate the potential disruptions the public holiday declared for Wednesday, September 27, 2023 by the Federal Government to commemorate the Eid-ul-Mawlid [the birth of Prophet Muhammad], would cause to the State Exco meeting.

He said the newly-appointed commissioners who were at the retreat had the opportunity to attend their first retreat and State Exco meeting with their older colleagues in Lagos.

THE CONCLAVE reports that the retreat will be rounded off today.
