OAU to confer honorary degrees on Ooni, Elizade

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, will honour Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11 and Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, with honorary Doctorate degree at its convocation scheduled for between December 8 and Dec 11, 2021.

Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, Vice-Chancellor of the OAU, said at a press conference in Ile-Ife on Thursday that the event would also mark the grand finale of activities of the diamond jubilee of the institution.

Ogunbodede said that Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, would be conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Letters while Ade-Ojo, founder, Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, would receive Honorary Doctor of Business Administration.

He said that the conference was to formally herald activities marking the 45th Convocation and Grand Finale of the 60th Anniversary of the university.

He noted that the 45th edition was special, saying it coincided with the celebration of the 60th anniversary the university.

He said that OAU would graduate no fewer than 7,634 students at all levels of academic qualifications.

”109 graduands bag first class (Honours) for the first degrees and 1,681 graduated with second class (Honours) while Lower Division has 2,707 graduands; 690 graduands fall under the Third Class (Honours) and 70 will graduate with a pass,” he said.

The vice-chancellor said that a total number of first-degree graduands would be 5,257.

He further said that 582 graduated from Colleges of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, while Postgraduate Degrees had 1,637 and Non-Degree Diplomas with 158.

He said that graduands had been exposed to different entrepreneurial programmes while on campus as additional opportunities to stand on their own.
