Sequel to the directive of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for a nationwide Indefinite strike over the issues of recent hike in electricity tariff and petrol pump price, the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has directed its members in Abuja, especially in government-owned media organisations, to actively take part.
In a statement, the Secretary of the Council, Ochiaka Ugwu, said the strike was to take place effective Monday, September 28, 2020.
“There is no doubt that this will affect our activities in the short term, but the long-term benefits are overwhelmingly more significant, both for yourselves and for us.
“Make no mistake about it, the inhuman hike on petrol pump price and electricity tariff has unleashed hardship on Nigerians who toil day and night to make both ends meet.
“Please note that in the event of any new development, you will be communicated immediately.
In solidarity,” Ugwu said.
