The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Elder Isaiah Abraham, a senior member and veteran journalist, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
In a statement Secretary of Council Jide Oyekunle said Elder Abraham was a highly respected figure in Nigerian journalism, known for his unwavering commitment and contributions to the profession and the Union. He worked with Concord Newspapers and the Daily Times of Nigeria before joining the New Nigerian Newspapers, where he served as Features Editor and later as Abuja Bureau Special Correspondent.
Born on April 27, 1959, in Lokoja and hailing from Emi-Bochi, Bassa LGA of Kogi State, Elder Abraham was a two-time Nigeria Merit Award recipient for demographic and political journalism. An alumnus of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, he was celebrated for his integrity, peace-loving nature, and mentorship of young journalists.
Nicknamed “Isaiah, The Son of Abraham” by colleagues, he was renowned for his investigative reporting, particularly on the Nigerian Population Commission and political affairs. Despite his passing, his unfinished books, The Garden of Vagabond and Housing and Demographic Problems in Nigeria, reflect his passion for societal issues.
The NUJ FCT Council extends condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues at Daily Times and New Nigerian Newspapers. Burial arrangements will be announced by the family.
