As the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) holds governorship primary election tomorrow (Saturday), the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, Emmanuel Ocheja, has ordered a full scale covert operation to arrest any act of criminality by hoodlums, thugs and miscreants planning to foment trouble, create panic and thwart the relative peace enjoyed by the people of the state..
According to the NSCDC Commandant in a press statement issued and made available to journalists on Friday, “This directive is against the backdrop of insinuations and allegations in some quarters that some nefarious elements have stockpiled uniforms of the Corps and the Nigeria Correctional Service with the intent on distributing them to non-state actors for use during the APC governorship primary elections in the state scheduled for Saturday, February 19, 2021”.
Commandant Ocheja assured the government and the people of the state that machineries have been set in motion to clamp down on any impostor or group of impostors that would be daring enough to wear the uniform or any accoutrements of NSCDC to unleash mayhem and perpetrate dastardly attacks in the state.
“We shall provide adequate security and maintain peace in the state at all time; the Corps is a neutral and non partisan organisation whose good name, image and principles were built by dint of hardwork, patriotism, excellence in service delivery and huge sacrifice to the nation, we will therefore not allow anyone under any guise to destroy the integrity or progress of the Corps but we shall continue to work assiduously to defend our mandate as enshrined in the Act,” Ocheja said
He hinted that the Intelligence and Investigation Department has been mobilised to embark on covert operation, surveillance investigation, and most importantly, to fish out and prosecute hoodlums who are hellbent on causing chaos in order to serve as deterrent to other criminally minded individuals in the state.
Commandant Ocheja urged all law abiding residents of Osun State to go about their lawful businesses, as NSCDC is already beaming its searchlight on every nook and cranny of the state to unravel the alleged fake personnel and other criminals planning to smear the integrity of the state.
He therefore enjoined members of the public to be alert, security conscious and report any suspicious movement of individuals or groups to the Civil Defence office nearest to them.
