The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Keshinro Adedotun, has commended the hitch-free conduct of the Lagos State local government elections held across the state on Saturday.

U.S. State Department sacks over 1,350 workers

Keshinro, who had earlier assured the government, electoral officials, and voters of a peaceful exercise, said the election had so far been serene, smooth, and well-organised, owing to the orderly conduct of the electorate.

Speaking after a monitoring exercise, he disclosed that the NSCDC deployed 2,450 personnel and strategic monitoring teams to ensure adequate security, peace, and stability throughout the process.

The commandant also praised voters for cooperating with security personnel across various wards and polling units.

He listed some of the local government areas (LGAs) and local council development areas (LCDAs) monitored to include Ikeja (Alausa), Agege, Isolo, Alimosho, Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, and Apapa.

Keshinro lauded Lagoa residents for their high level of compliance with the movement restrictions and urged them to remain law-abiding during future elections in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission(LASIEC) is conducting election in the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in the state.

A document obtained from LASIEC shows that only 15 of the 19 political parties that initially expressed interest in the elections, submitted candidate list ahead of the poll.
