The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja–Kaduna passenger train service will resume next week following the completion of repairs and safety checks on the damaged track section at Asham.

The service was suspended after the August 26, 2025 incident, during which operations were halted for emergency restoration.

According to a statement signed by NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, both infrastructure and rolling stock have now been restored to global safety standards.

As part of its passenger welfare measures, the corporation said it has refunded 512 of the 583 passengers on board the affected train, while efforts are ongoing to process refunds for the remaining passengers.

The NRC thanked the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders for their support during the suspension period, assuring passengers that safety and comfort remain its top priorities.

Details of the official resumption date and train schedule are expected to be released in the coming days.
