The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has condemned the recent outbreak of violence in Amagba Community, Edo State, following the fatal shooting of Mr. Israel Ogbeide.

His body was found on October 19, 2024, at around 2:00 p.m., with a gunshot wound.

Initial investigations suggest the incident stems from a long-standing conflict between the Amagba and Obagie communities.

In a statement Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered a full investigation into the shooting, with a commitment to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He said contrary to rumors, police operatives from the Force Intelligence Department and Edo State Command’s Department of Operations responded promptly to rising tensions in the Oke Aroma area. Officers found the community deserted but did not cross into Amagba or Obagie.

A continued police presence has been maintained to ensure public safety.

The NPF urges calm and calls on anyone with information about the incident to assist the ongoing investigation to help bring peace to the area.
Adejobi, reiterated that police deployments are driven by operational needs, not external influences.
