The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has addressed concerns over a trending video, showing individuals suspected to be armed terrorists, which has recently gained significant attention and caused widespread alarm.

In a statement Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the video, featuring people with assault rifles and other dangerous weapons and accompanied by a Hausa commentary claiming they were migrating from Benin Republic to Nigeria, has been thoroughly analyzed by the NPF Cybercrime Centre.

He added that the analysis confirmed that the video was originally created and circulated on May 28, 2018.

Recent reposting of the video with a misleading narrative was intended to cause unnecessary panic and disruption within the country.

The NPF urges the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.

The force strongly warned against the deliberate spread of false information, describing it as unpatriotic, criminal, and punishable under the law.

Such actions, the Police said, could incite panic and destabilize the nation.

The NPF said that individuals involved in creating or disseminating misleading content would face legal consequences.

“The public is encouraged to rely on official channels for accurate updates and to report any suspicious activities or content to the authorities,” the Police said.
