The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group has commended the governors of the 19 northern states for their decision to establish a N1 billion joint security intervention fund to tackle insecurity in the region.
Each governor will contribute N1 billion monthly to support the initiative.
However, the group has urged the federal government to disclose the identities of individuals, organizations, and networks implicated in financing terrorism in Nigeria.
They believe that the government has the necessary intelligence to identify these actors and that the public has a right to know.
The group’s convener, Chief Jacob Edi Kakaki Bassa-Nge, noted that the publication of terrorism financiers, combined with the current security operations, would significantly advance Nigeria’s efforts to eliminate terrorism and restore peace.
The group also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for intensifying security operations nationwide.
The nation stands at a critical juncture, and transparency is crucial to consolidating and sustaining the gains made so far.
The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group’s call for transparency on terrorism financiers is a timely and necessary step towards ensuring that those responsible for funding these atrocities are held accountable.
This development highlights the ongoing efforts to address insecurity in Nigeria and the struggle to combat terrorism financing. The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group’s call for transparency is a step towards ensuring that those responsible are held accountable and that the region can finally achieve the peace and stability it deserves.
