The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu says Security agencies and regulatory organisations in the country performed excellently well in the month of September.
Issa-Onilu said this during the Monthly Joint Security Press Briefing in Abuja
He explained that, the Nigerian Army was engaged in multiple operations across the various zones of the country within the period under review.
According to him, a total of 196 operations were conducted during the reporting period, resulting in numerous arrests, neutralisation of terrorists and other criminal elements, recovery of arms and ammunition as well as rescue of kidnapped victims.
“The reporting period also covered records of casualties among troops and civilians as well as details of vandalism, prison breaks and public safety issues.
“Troops intercepted a vehicle conveying 10 armed suspects wearing official security planning and anti-crime control uniforms.
“Troops also raided a notorious criminals’ hideout at Aku-Ihube in Okigwe Local Government Area in Imo.
“Similar remarkable successes were recorded with troops recovering exhibits like weapons, ammunitions and cash.”
The NOA boss also explained that the collaborative efforts of security agencies including Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), led to arrests of many criminals and couriers for bandits in Plateau, Niger, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Katsina, Benue, Zamfara and other states.
“Through series of meticulously coordinated and diligently executed efforts, the ongoing operations have successfully degraded the operational capabilities of several significant criminal networks, thereby substantially enhancing the nation’s security framework.
“These decisive achievements not only disrupt immediate threats but also set a strong and compelling precedent, validating the strategic approach for continued and sustained operations by the intelligence service.
Speaking on achievements by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Issa-Onilu said that the Speaker of the House of Representatives registered a total of 65 inmates for NECO SSCE/NABTEB.
He also said that the centre for Legal Support and Inmate Rehabilitation (CELSIR) registered a total of 226 inmates in 10 custodial centres nationwide, ensuring access to formal education and vocational qualifications.
“Routine and special security inspections were conducted across custodial centres nationwide to strengthen perimeter fence, detect contraband, and prevent jailbreak attempts.

“Medical outreach programmes were carried out in some custodial facilities to address the health needs of inmates, including screenings, treatment of communicable diseases, and provision of essential drugs.
“Psycho-social support and counseling sessions were also organised to support inmates’ mental health and emotional stability.
“Officers of the Service were also trained on modern correctional practices in line with global standards,” he said.
The NOA boss said that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), National Agency for Food Drug and Administration (NAFDAC), and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) all did very well within the period under review.
According to him, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and others also did exceptionally well.
Issa-Onilu further called on Nigerians to assist the agencies and organisations with information and intelligence to enable them do better in their various lines of duties.
