Rearrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, told a Federal High Vourt on Tuesday that he might have been killed if he had not gone underground.
Kanu said this accounted for his inability to appear before the court in continuation of his trial.
He said pount blank that he might have been killed if he didn’t jump bail in 2017.
The court was presided over by Justice Binta Nyako.
Kanu had indicated his interest to talk after the judge ruled that he should be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS).
He said the reason he decided to go underground was because his house was raided.
He stated that he was able to escape, otherwise he would have been neutralised like other members of the group.
The judge advised him to feel free to stand his trial and urged him to get across to his lawyer for the trial.
The counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Shuaibu Labaran, had earlier told the court that the defendant (Kanu), who jumped bail, had been arrested and produced in court.
Labaran urged the court for an order detaining the arrested IPoB leader at the DSS facility pending the hearing and determination of the matter.
Justice Nyako, who granted the plea, adjourned the matter until July 26 for trial continuation.
